i have a 55 gallon barrel built by the magnolia petroleum co. besides the name there is stamped "texas div" a serial no. of 79704 and a patent date of june 3 1902-also there is a oval metal tag that says 55 net gals. the barrel is shaped like a wiskey barrel and has a odd looking spiget. does anybody know anything about this barrel or the magnolia petro co?

Magnolia was an east-Texas (Corsicana) outfit which was ultimately taken-over by SOCONY-Mobil.

From your description, I take it that you're talking about a wooden barrel, rather than a steel drum. Can you post a picture of it?
