I have a 50 gallon galvanized drum which is heavily embossed--INDIAN REFINING LOUISVILLE KY. In all of the articles and the history of the company, I`ve never seen or heard any mention of Louisville as being a refinery or bulk plant. Are there any Indian/Texaco guys out there that might shed some light on this mystery? PS--The drum has a serial number. Thanks

You need to contact Jim Hinds. You can find his email address in the collectors roster for Indiana.

You're correct, more or less. INDIAN REFINING COMPANY, Incorporated, never had a refinery in Louisville but did have a large bulk plant. (It was located in what was then considered the "west end", though I couldn't tell you the exact address.) What you've got is probably a drum which was filled (from bulk) at that plant.

If you're interested in the history of the old INDIAN, drop me a note and I'll send you a copy of some notes which I've put together.
