I for one will not be bidding on anything with a buyers preimium, If this means the end of doing bussiness with ebay so be it! I guess this is were you end up after you retire from sticking people up in parking lots, Swap meets are a lot more fun anyway.

I agree. If it all goes this way ebay can place it where the sun don't shine. Swap meets are a whole bunch more fun and we will just have to have more of them. Ted

Guys . . . guys!
This is an auction in the real world - not just a normal e-bay listing that can be bid on at your computer thru e-bay. You have to register with the auction company and bid through e-bay to the auction company to make this happen. It's just like walking into a live auction and having to pay a buyers premium. It's still your choice whether you bid or not.
E-bay doesn't charge a 'Buyers Premium' - just the normal sellers fees - the premium is a fee charged by the auction house.
Later . . .
Jim

T-WAY IS RITE.This auctioneer is one of the best,Doug Davies and his crew run a good auction. He went out of his way to help me a few years ago.He does not charge a B.P.This is a bidding service from ebay that is charging the B.P.if you bid on line or absentee. The way I read his auction there is no B.P. if you bid at the site. BUT B-WARE I SMELL SOMETHING FROM EBAY.Rex

My input on this b.p.......Here in IDAHO (Mayberry)..we have a few auction companies who charge a 10 % buyers premium. I do not go to any of these auctions. I recently went on a 15 day cruise to Central America and South America on a Royal Caribbean cruise. They had an auction onboard with some Pete Rose collectables and some Walt Disney signed photos and there was a 15 % BP.. I got 5 Pete Rose signed items and had to pay the 15% b p...its hers, like it or not, but for me, I will not bid on any item on Ebay or anywhere else with a bp....my take.....

If we all didnt go, someone else will get the stuff and profit from your lack of participation. Also the auction company would never notice. If you contac the auctioneers who mail out flyers to you and tell them how you feel they will notice a little bit. It simply boils down to this..80.00 x1.25 = 100.00..sssoooooo your bid wil be .8 of what you really want to pay. Maybe its a bit easier for us up here because we have to do it on everything we buy in US dollars on a daily basis. Personally I think that the bidders that dont calculate their bids that way are a real small minority, if they are serious about auction buying. It would take a lot more than that to scare me away from an auction when I have money to spend...but the more than dont attend, the better for the ones that do...dodogas

I'm with Dodo...boycotting an auction with a bidders premium would never work, except for the guys who attended. ------------------ Don "oltoydoc" Sherwood Vintage Gas

Up here we have 7% GST(Goldurn SalesTax) and 7.5% (Provincial sales tax) on almost everything for almost everyone, some status natives are exempt from some. We dont like but most of us still live here, and people still move here. Also when you bid on an item in Canada from a legitimate dealer you get it cheaper than us, we pay 7% on the shipped price, out of country buyers do not. Also it is cheaper in some cases to send an item to the US than across Canada. But you know the costs going in and you decide what you want to pay. At an auction you do that, on ebay you figure hammer price, shipping, cost of money order and bid accordingly. Its simple math, no surprises, you know it going in, you accept the way they run things or you miss your chance. Nobody is forced to attend, if you dont like fresh to market items, you can pick over whats left. Often items auctioned have been off the market for 30 yrs or more. Like the Pederson auction, where else are you going to find a good original Gilmore visible, you could wait till you die or always find out after they are sold. I dont like bidders premiums, but I took a 12 step program and got over it...dodogas

If enough people (potential buyers) boycotted an auction the auctioneer would definitely notice. I don't think there would be enough participation for it to work though. The buyers premium is a non-issue on items like Gilmore globes and extremely rare original pumps. Even collections that have rare and desireable items will have an abundance of more common items. The buyers premium is definitely an issue on those items. The only recourse we have is to deduct the buyers penalty from the total price we are willing to bid for an item. Just as you would consider shipping charges before you bid on an item from ebay. Be sure to let the auctioneer and consignors know that you figure the bp when you bid. Bob

I have a theory regarding the BP showing up on EBAY. Some ex-IRS bean counters have infiltrated our hobby and they're working on a means of how to get a little more blood out of the common man. Definition of "common man"; people like us (hard working, self starters, honest, the backbone of this great nation of ours)
