I am a shop teacher at a small rural high school in Wyoming. This year some of the kids in one of my classes decided to try and restore the Erie 71 gas pump from their family farm. According to the grandad, it is a Sinclair pump, but we do not know (and he doens't remember) what the color scheme looked like. Does anyone out there have a color picture, or know how this pump may have been painted?

The other huge stumbling block is that the glass on top of the pump is missing. It is not a typical globe like on other pumps. If anyone has this piece of glass, or knows where we might be able to come up with one, please let me know. I have to pay for this project out of my own pocket, but it is worth it to me to teach these kids a worthwhile skill. The kids are really fired up about this project, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Please contact me at coopwyo@yahoo.com and thanks for your time.

Chris, I think that projects like this are super cool for the kids of today. They spend so much time at the computer games and have few chances of doing something practical like this.
The glass you are looking for is unfortunately one of the harder parts to find in this hobby. Here is a picture of what it looks like (the top): http://www.gaspumps.info/gallery/v/pumps/Electric/erie/erie71.jpg.html?g2_enterAlbum=0]http://www.gaspumps.info/gallery/v/pumps/Electric/erie/erie71.jpg.html?g2_enterAlbum=0

Good luck with your project!
Claes

From the below link, it looks like there was a metal or glass top for this pump. I do not recall seeing this item in the repo parts catalogs but some one here may be able to help. Good luck with it.

Chris:

You can replace the (next to impossible to find) glass top with a normal globe assembly.

Shoot me an e-mail directly and I'll send you photos to show you what you need to fabricate.

Later . . .

Unless you are Extremely Lucky, you could pay $1200 & up for the glass top only.
This is what your looking for [Frankpl bought & sold this less than a month ago]. http://img213.imageshack.us/img213/5199/picture1250oq3.jpg
