Any ideas on keeping freshly polished brass items from tarnishing other than spraying it with clear? seems like the clear always takes some of the shine away. Thanks

I have used U-POL clear in a spray can. It does not take away any shine on brass.I think you can get it only at a autobody supply store. marty

Flitz polish works well and lasts longer than standard brass polish, But tarnish is just the nature of the beast.

Mark, Try the following clear coat from StanChem,Inc.at www.stanchem-inc.com/ known as Incralac. The best protective coating for brass and copper on the market based on my use experience. Have not purchased any in a few years, not cheap but once and done. Walt K.

Also try not to touch it with the bare hands. Oils from your skin can make dark spots on it

The post by gasoildude is correct for any cleaned surface prior to coating with Incralac, which is the same any time you prep a surface before you apply a protective finish. Once the Incralac coating is dry, handling is no longer a concern. Many clear coatings tarnish over time, however Incralac has not on any items I have done, some going back 15 + years. ( I don't work for StanChem, Inc, but do appreciate high quality products). Walt K.
