Is it possible to remove old decals from a pump without damaging them? I have a derby decal on my pump that if it is possible I would like to save but I'm not sure of how to take it off in one piece.

Cut the sheet metal around it.

Cover decal, strip the paint, primer & paint doors then uncover decal.

Why don't you take a high resolution picture of it and have T-Way or Al Kozelski reproduce them in vinyl?? Both do excellent work.

Thanks for the suggestions but I'm not going to reuse the decal or anything I just thought it would be neat to keep if I could. I'm thinking it would be more work than it's worth to save it so I think I will just work at it to remove it.

Have you ever tried to capture a F_rt ? LOL
Can't be done Except to use a camera.

Hang that door on the wall & buy a replacement.

Ok I'm just going to remove the decal then with some solvent along with the paint. I can't really get a new door because my pump is too new and it has been impossible for me to find any parts for it.

You haven't told us what pump you are trying to restore.

I can't belive that the pump is so new that no one has any parts for it.

What some of us are requesting is that you take as good a picture of it as possible, it is for the next guy who might want to restore a pump to that oil company.

This discussion group is to help each other, that is all we are asking of you, you preserve something, we preserve something.

Sorry guys I should have put more details about my pump in there. The pump is a Wayne 734 and I can try to take a good picture of the decal. I might even be able to scan it. Does anyone know what settings I should set the scanner or camera to? I don't usually mess with the settings on the camera or scanner so I don't know what the high resolution settings would be. I have sent emails to a few companies about getting parts and I have gotten no responses from them and I have not been able to find any reproduction parts for it either. I can make the ad glass my self with some plexiglass and some decals but I need to find a window and frame and the lower half of the metal face plate.

IF it's a vinyl decal, try a little heat & a razor blade/ice scraper/thin putty knife.

I think it might be a vinyl decal. I will try the razor blade and see how it goes but first I will try to get the picture of the decal.
