Has anyone ever come across or does anyone have an old Texaco Windsock? I've seen one offered on ebay, and when I search in google, worthpoint.com does not pull many other older auctions up, so I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge about anything about these Windsocks. I have a large Ertl texaco bank collection, so it goes with my theme and I'd like to find one. Thanks for any help.

Hi Adam,
I'm a Mobil collector and have seen a couple different windsocks made by Socony-Vacuum (earlier Mobil Corp.) that were supposed to be used at airports. I do not own one as they are 10 feet long and I'd rather use my precious wall space for other items.
Welcome to the site by the way,
Darin

I have one here...I dont believe its much older than the 80s or so (someone can correct me if the date is off)...you can see it in this thread (scroll down...its on the ladder). Not sure how many versions there are...I know Esso has a few different ones.

Thanks for the replies. I think that windsock is great, but there is specifically a white one on ebay that looks really vintage. I really like all of your pump signs too, I will eventually start collecting those when I have more money.

That's certainly of the vintage of the older Mobil ones I've seen, which have been late 1930's, early 1940's vintage, when the oil companies had aviation grade gasoline pumps or tankers available on airfields, just as they did at marinas, and other outlets selling specific use gasoline, vying for customer business. They wanted you to know Texaco fuel was available on premises and this was one way to show it!

I have a feeling that eBay auction is about to get pricey.

Wow, I definitely feel I missed out, but that vintage one just sold for $137.50 + $10.95 shipped. I'm only 26 so I sure hope I come across one of those again. I'm still up for learning more. Thanks for everyone's info and input.
