Anyone know anything about this item? How it was used? What it hung from ? I have never seen one before and thought it is very cool. It belongs to a friend of mine. I listed it for him on the for sale thread. On the bottom in small print it says, Manufactured and sold exclusively by C, E. Erickson & Co., Des Moines, Iowa Patented.

I got to thinkin bout this thing and then I realized that MAYBE, yeah, MAYBE it's a very early cigarette rolling machine . Look, I haven't smoked in years . Still, when I lived in California , I rolled my own cause of the taxes . I saw the printed notes as though it coulld be something else too.......... Look, it's a guess. Ed Shaver

Did it possibly hang from the choke nob, looks like it would have been used to keep track of the service you did to the car.

Mark, I don't know Sam ? Contact him and let him know it's on Old Gas. It belongs to Row. You know how he is with technology. Whats a computer? I told him it is better here then taking it to shows and it getting damaged.

60wayne, Your item pictured is a telephone list that hung on the front of old time candlestick telephones. You would unscrew the mouthpiece and insert it through the hold in the lister and then screw the mouthpiece back on. When you wanted a number you pulled down on the shade and there it was. They were made with all kinds of advertising on them, hotels, beer, taxi, etc.
Hope this helps.

Robert, Now that makes sense to me. I have collected old phones for years and that use had never crossed my mind. There is always more to be learned, that's one of the things I love about collecting.

The only problem is that now your information has caused me to want to buy it from my friend even more. I have three phones within sight of where I am sitting that it could go on. My friend does have two of them he is wanting to sell, but he is a little pricey for my pocket. I'll try it on a phone and post a picture. Thanks

It pulls down further, why take the chance on damaging the spring on something that old when it's not mine.
