This is probably known by many people as it's such a unique looking pole, but I was wondering what this was for. The ring on top looks to be about 30" and it has mounts for two lights on the sides. Fluted pole and is really nice looking.

Any insights appreciated.

I thought it looked like some of the fancy early GULF station poles I had seen in photos. Nice looking at any rate.

I'll bet that top is 60" or larger. The GULF guys will know. 30" is more like a curb sign. Dave

...looks like it, alright...but I think there were 'acorns' on top of the two light arms...

...I'd like to have that, even without the missing pieces - I've got the sign that goes on top of it wink

...the ring - and the short length of post beneath it - were added later...the sign in the old photos is either 5'-5" or 6' in diameter...

Hello Mark,
Will you post a picture of the sign that you have that goes in the ring ? Would love to see it. Does this sign predate the 42" sign with the scroll work underneath it?
Thanks,
Dave

...I believe it does...but I'm working about 90 miles away from the sign...

Thanks for all of the help and interest on this. After the tip from arw that it was a Gulf post I did some searching and found a couple of other pics, as well. The ring on the sign today definitely is smaller than the signs in the pics.

I have no idea if this is for sale or not but figure the worst thing they can do is to tell me "no." As a married guy of 26 years that won't phase me at all... Any idea on what it would be worth, as is?

Here's a couple of other pics I found if anyone is interested. Thanks to nochevys for the others!

...the ring on the sign today, is completely different - the signs in your pictures don't have a frame, per se...the sign's 'can' is the frame - it weighs less than you'd think...it looks like the 'acorns' were replaced with floodlights when the opal glass letters were removed from the sign, and the single-sided Gulf signs were placed over the original sign faces...changing it from an internally-lit sign to one lit from the outside...
