I bought this piece a while back because it looked early and petro related. I talked to a fellow Old Gasser and believed it to be a hand gauge that was used on horse drawn tankers, and was manually moved by the operator after each fuel delivery to know how much was left in the tank. Not sure if that's correct or not. What is everyone's thoughts on this piece?

His description is correct. This was mounted in the rear cabinet and as they filled 5 or 10 gallon transfer cans they kept track with this as a gauge.

Thanks
Mike

That's great! I tried to look for an original tanker photo where you could see it but came up empty handed. Are these very common..?

They were still for sale in the 1930s.
