The various reference materials I have isnt clear on whether a model 36 and a 36B are the same pump except for the light dome/ structure on top. Is this the only difference, and can one be turned into the other with a simple exchange of the dome?

Brian...the 36B's that we have at Vic's Place are a bit deeper front to back than a 36. Also, a 36 has just one chrome spear on the front doors, where the 36B has 3 on each door. And yes, the 36B top is a bit more stepped than the 36. Call if you need parts or have questions. Seth/Vic's Place

There is ALOT of things that are differant. The frame on the 36 is pipe, 36B has a welded angle frame. The computer sits higher on the 36, because the sight glass is on the outside , 36B is in top of face [lower computer]. The top casting is narrower [face to face] tops will NOT interchange. And not all 36B's came with 3 strips on the doors

I dont yet have the pump dimensions or construction... am working from pictures. It is missing the dome so there is no clue there. It does have the three spears, but it also has an orginal model nameplate called the "Moneymaker"... was this model name exclusive to either the 36 or 36B, or both?

Brian, the term Moneymaker was applied to BOTH the 36 and 36B. It was used on their single pumping units AND the doubles AND the "Jumbo Sales Case" (display pump). I'll send you a photo. The most interesting pump of this series (to me) was the version that had the illuminated front panel (NOT a display case)! That one is my personal favorite. Ron Scobie

I decided to pull the "Repair Parts Manuals" for the 36 and the 36-B to see if I could add anything to this discussion. First the 36 in all my manuals have four flat panels and long strips that covered the four corners where the panels came together. Also the 36 has no sight glass in the face, it has an outside sight guage. As Dick Bennett said, it has a pipe frame and the manuals confirm that the tops are not interchangeable. All the 36-B manuals show the 36-B having panels that step down on the front and back, and these overlap the side panels. It also has a sight glass in the face. I am not saying all 36's and 36-B's are this way, I am just saying that this is what the eight different dated "Repair Parts Manuals" that I have, say.

Thanks you guys ((Seth, Ron (nice Bowser dial face, Ron, thanks), Dick and Jack)) for the info. Turns out to be a 36 not a 36B. The spears threw me. Now, if I could just get it from Seattle to Chicago.
