I am working a trade with a guy and for part of the trade he wants to give me a clear, Sunoco embossed oil bottle with a embossed Sunoco tin spout. I was guessing at the value to be approx 50 to 75 dollars. Does this sound right, I want to be fair to him. It also says property of Sun Oil Company along the bottom. thanks steve

I recieved an email from another Canadian old gas member and he said that the bottle was likely a Canadian version of the Sun oil company which was in business before Sunoco of the US. They started in 1885 in Ontario Canada and the Sunoco from the US came into canada legally in 1934. There is a chance that this bottle was prior to 1934. This info came from John Maxwell tomorrow I will post pictures

Morning Steve!

I'm wrong - I misinterpreted your original post as to the wording on the bottle. Many times, I've heard people refer to the Sun Oil Company of Canada as Sunoco, but they are actually 2 - or more accurately 3 - different companies.

That looks like a US parent SUNOCO bottle.

The original Sun Oil Company of Canada (1885-1934) never used the abbreviation SUNOCO. The Sun Company out of the US purchased the Sun name from Sun Canada in 1934, and began doing business in Canada as The Sun Oil Company (Canada) Ltd. The original Sun Oil Company of Canada then continued on as The Miller Oil Company of Canada Ltd. Clear as mud, yes?

I was hoping it was, though, given your close proximity to Brantford, where the company was started. Apparently, they're out there. But I can't say whether the bottles had paper, fired-on, or embossed labels.

Great pictures, thanks for sharing and increasing the knowledge base!
