Hey all, just picked up a great SST painted sign. The guy had it hanging in his garage for years. Well it looks like he painted something with black spray paint and got a fine mist overspray on a section of the sign. Is there any magic recipe to remove this. If it was porcelian no problem, but I didnt dare put even a mild paint remover on it. Please help?!?

I was told that the clay used to remove residue from car finishes will remove overspray? I have not tried it but if you give it a go, let me know? Paul www.severngaspumps.com

If it is just overspray you may be able to remove it with just very hot soapy water or polishing compound or a cleaner wax like maguires. I've had good luck with all 3 starting with the water or the cleaner wax to the harsher polishing compound last but always test a small incon spicuous area first to be sure you are not damaging it.
Got Socony???

I have had good success in removing painted on letters on trucks by using oven cleaner. Works really good and does not hurt the finish on auto paint. I would try a little corner first though.

most pin stripers use oven cleaner to remove old pin stripes from auto paint and so have I. A tin sign may not be the same.

Use a clay bar and some mequires final inspection. If that doesn't do it then step up to compound and buffing it. Last resort oven cleaner cause it will eat the paint on the sign of not used correctly

I've heard that Avon "Skin So Soft" could perform some magic. Try some in a small area first.

OK guys I tried the polishing compound with absulutely no results. When you had success are we talking doing it by hand or a buffing wheel? I'm a bit nervous to try oven cleaner just yet...

I am assuming you are going to have to use a buffer to remove paint, its hard to get any heat in the surface by hand.
