I removed and disassembled a fry pump, sprayed the shaft with silicone lubricant on both ends, and greased the areas where the impeller swing back and forth on the steel base plate. It appears to me that the shaft is so tight where it goes through the steel base plate that it will not move back and forth freely. I was able to pry up the paddles away from the steel base plate so they were not touching the base plate, but still very hard to move the shaft back and forth. I reworked a couple of Fry pumps before and once I greased everything, the pump shaft moved freely back and forth.

Any suggestions on how to free up the shaft so it moves freely? Is there a bearing in the steel base plate? Thank you for your time.
Joe

I don't think that they used any bearings in these, just packing.

No photo needed. The shaft almost dropped out of my Fry 17 and I had to use a sledgehammer to remove the shaft from my Fry 87. I used a long center punch in the bolt hole at end of shaft to prevent damage to shaft end while hammering away with sledgehammer. The Fry 17 gallon still had the square graphite rope packing inside. Greased up the inside of both pumps with bearing grease, re-assembled and both work smoothly. I can hear the valves opening and closing on the Fry 87, but can't on the Fry 17.
