(Moderator Note:)
Photos no longer need to be resized when using the Attachment Manager to upload the photo into your forum post.
How to use Attachment Manager:
http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=703369
*

Resize an image to create your own avatar at Resize pictures - just remember, that an avatar can be 80 pixels. This free online tool will do it for you. You don't have to download a program.

Download / Save the resized image and then do a direct upload of your avatar into your Profile. Click your user name on the upper right at the login spot then choose "Edit Profile" Scroll down to "Upload your avatar"

Additionally, before you post any picture in the forums, Shrink your picture to a maximum of 640 pixels to prevent horizontal scrolling and slow download speeds. Click the link to resize a picture.

Download / Save the resized image and then do a direct upload:
Instructions:
* Click on "New Topic" or "New Reply"
* Then click on "File Manager"
* Click on "Browse" and select your image. Images should be 640 x 480 or less and 100k or less.
* Add text in caption box
* Click the "Add File" button
* Click the "Done Adding Files" button.
* Fill out the Subject and Post message box (no image code is needed) Preview button will not show image
* Click "Submit"

The direct upload feature is not available on the Non-Petro forums.

Looks like ImageShack did change the way the link choices are presented.

To display a full size image, copy the code line under:
"Embed this Image"
and copy the code line for "Forum" (NOT Alt Forum)

To display a thumbnail linked to a full size image:
"Embed thumbnails of this image"
and copy the code line for "Forum"

Remember you can resize images during upload to ImageShack by checking the box to resize and choosing 640x480 or smaller.

Your "Testing Area" forum post had thumbnail code:
http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=166449

Hope that helps.

If on Image shack you hit browser to upload the image that you want. Click on upload options link. Then click on the size 640x480 (for message boards). Leave the add label to thumbnail on No. Then hit the Upload Now button & wait for image to upload. After it has uploaded highlight the link that says Forum Code. Copy it & paste it on the Old Gas reply & hit submit. The image you want should show up on Old Gas smile
There are 2 URL codes shown when you copy & paste the link. I delete the last one so the Image Shack ad does not show up. Below is one with the ad & one after I deleted the last code. Hope this helps smile

WITH THE AD

WITHOUT THE AD

My two cents. As a member of many forums for many various hobbies I have found that SOME people will be less likely to post/use a forum that makes it harder on them. Especially new or visitor posters. This seems to be where many GOOD deals for veteran members may be lost. No offense but I think many members here enjoy snapping up good buys from the for sale forums. I personally have posted a few items on other sites because I have troubles with the image resizing programs on this site.

Hope this is in the right forum

Most Re-sizing problems can be cured w/ camera settings. Set at 640x480.

Dick,
There can be a few wrinkles. Cranno was not working yesterday, apparently.
My reasonably old digital camera will not let me size down to 640X480 and when I do it online and restore it back to my computer it re-establishes the old size. Took me 4 hours and Jim's help to figure it out. I am admittedly a slow learner-just ask my wife!

Save As instead of Save after it has been re-sized should save the new file.
Very few ever had kids the 1st times they tried!

Minimum is a period . or any text you wish to add.
By adding a Subject it makes the item/picture easier to Google/Oldgas Search.

Doug,
If you would like to have an avatar picture under your name in each of your posts, follow the directions on the Avatar Help page:

http://www.oldgas.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=133505

<----- See the avatar picture under my "Oldgas" name to the left.
