Hi guys, I have a question that maybe someone could help me with. A friend of mine has this clock and I could buy it from him for basically $75.00. I am sure the price is good, but I was curious what year or maybe decade this clock is from? He hasn't taken it down from the wall yet so I could see the back but he said that some part (I forget which one) is made of catalin. I know catalin was popular in the 1930s, but do you think this clock is that old? I also included the picture of the older style cord and plug. He said it works fine but needs a couple minutes to "warm up" before it starts working.

He basically wants to trade me for something I have about $25.00 in and $50.00 cash. If I got it I think I would just keep it since it's pretty cool, but what do you think the value is?

Here are a couple of pics. I am sorry that they are sideways, but for some reason my photo hosting site has up loaded them that way.

Not a real shell clock. Looks like a shell decal on a regualr clock

check out ebay items:

270974149045
150810640749
200757283570

looks like these with the shell decal added
many examples of these, old clock new sticker sold as an advertising clock-Coke, Texaco, etc.

if it was silkscreened on there AND NOT shiny bright, it would be more believable as a Shell issued/approved clock.

I've got this very clock, minus the sticker

A lot of these on the market right now....recently discussed on the forum were the plethora of fake Mobil clocks on Ebay. The same seller is ripping people off with these generic clocks with a sticker or decal applied and getting $200 plus for the pieces of junk. If you're "decorating" it's worth the value of the clock, that's it.

WOW!! Thanks guys! Holy cow, the last thing I expected to hear was that the clock was a fake! Man, the third auction number posted above is the exact clock! Wow, thanks again. I'm glad that I asked you guys!

I have to say the clock is maybe a Simplex . I used to Silk Screen faces myself for a local branch of the companmy in 1968. Simplex never made anything like that for the oil companies to my knowlege . Ed Shaver
