When I was a young boy living in Dallas in the 1950's we would visit my fathers hometown of Roxton, Texas (just a few miles southwest of Paris, Texas). One of the best things about the trip was visiting my uncle Wayne's Esso service station.
He and my grandfather built it right after WW2. I have included a pic of the station soon after it opened. We would walk to the station from my cousin Jeff's home and always be able to reach into the Lance's Snack jar for a piece of candy.
I wish I knew then what I know now. I wonder where those old calculator gas pumps and all the Esso signs went to? Before my uncle died he sold the station. I would have retrieved all the pumps, signs, and the wire Lance display stand with those four Lance jars. But I did not.
We all have great memories of the past. Petrolina was part of mine even when I did not have a clue what that word meant!
