I've had this Texaco lubester finished for about a month and have not had time to deliver it to my friend who owns it. I have been hesitant to post it because there are many oldgassers that didn't want me to touch it. It was originally green and in pretty fair shape. When I posted a picture of it a few months ago it appeared to be in better shape than it really was. Truthfully, if it was mine I would've left it as it was but my friend wanted it painted red to match a Gas Boy I gave him for Christmas. He will display this in a 50's room he built with 25 NICE restored jukeboxes, no two being alike. To me the neatest thing about this item is the porcelain sign; Thanks for looking! Neal

Neal, You did a fantastic job on the luebster, I have read posts from the old timers here, saying that when they started collecting, you could'nt hardly give away the computer pumps, everyone wanted visibles. I have always said I believe that the luebsters are under estimated and as our hobby grows there will be those who will be kicking themselves about all of the luebsters they passed on. You heard it from me first Luebsters will be the next big thing!

I have three OPAC Lubesters like that Texaco. One restored Barnsdall and an unrestored Barnsdall and Cities Service. The Pump or top on all three is a soft metal maybe pot metal, I didn't paint it on the Barnsdall just left it the natural grey and painted the tank red.
Did the Texaco have the same type of pump, how well did it take paint? I know you did it for someone else but what would you recomend leaving the pump "natural grey pot metal or painting. All three of mine did not appear to have ever had paint on the pump. Thanks, Jim
Collect small Oklahoma Oil Co.'s 1920's-1940's. Barnsdall, Cushing, Eason, Marland, etc.

Very little POT METAL was ever used on pumps. What most classify as POT METAL, is CAST ALUMINUM, not the grade that we have today. It did not weather well, if left UN-PAINTED. db

This entire pump externally was pot metal. I did not go into the guts but on removing the handle I saw that the two gears were also pot metal. So far as painting pot metal, sandblast, then spray self etching primer. Paint will then stick very well.
