This is my latest buy....a little info, bought this out of an old station in Germantown, Oh. The owner has been there for 35 years and he pulled the pumps out in 1992. Now he does breaks, tires and small general repairs. It is kind of a hangout for a lot of locals and the big question of the day is "what's for lunch?". He had owned this piece since the 70's, it sat on a pump at Green Chevrolet Dealership in Germantown in the 20's and I have a pic of it on the old pump. Gerkens was an Independent Oil Co and was local to the Dayton, Ohio area. As you can see the lenses are not fired and appear very USED. It sits on a 15 low profile metal and has the original pricer that wraps around the globe base. I know most would not be interested in this globe but I find it interesting for the local history and the fact that I got it from a place that I will always have fond memories. The owner, Dave Bishop, is pictured below. Thanks.

Mick

Hey Alex,

Here's a closer picture of the pump. For 14 years, prior to "Power X" gas, Sinclair used the "Ethyl" logo on their globes... From 1939 to 1947 the entire globe had a red background. From 1947 to 1953 the "Ethyl" globes had a red and white background. It looks like this photo was from the mid 1940's. The Pump Plate is probably covered up with the "banner-type" material "Sinclair-ize" sign that was wrapped around the pump...

As you can see in some of the other pictures, they were "introducing" their NEW gasoline, Power-X at the Dealer conferences! PRETTY COOL!!

I have that exact "Sinclair-ize your car for summer" cardboard sign. I believe it is the same size as the one shown and has metal grommets at the corners. It is made out of light cardboard. This one appears to be held onto the pump by strings tied to the grommets. I was always curious as to what the sign was used for! :-)

Very interesting, That pump is a 700 series, but the ad glass is at the top instead of the bottom. Also it has the Bennett tag under the sight glass. It looks more like a 600 series, but look at the height. Remember that it is on a stage.
