Never seen this globe in the baked version before. Looks to be pretty nice condition for its age. I wonder how much it will go for, any thoughts???

Its a little different from the one Scott shows in his book and I don't know enough about it to appraise its value but it sure is in nice condition for its age! Looks like a few people think its valuable! It would look nice in any collection!
Nice to see an occasional oldie instead of all the new repops!

I might would, I have another Valvoline globe on glass that is the ethyl version. I think this one may go pretty high. Will have to wait and see. I have NEVER seen this globe BAKED before. Have seen several that were etched. Great piece. My guess is 5000.00

ANYBODY KNOW WHAT THAT DESIGN IS SUPPOSED TO BE BEHIND THE VALVOLINE LOGO? JUST CURIOUS SINCE IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANYTHING. DEF A RARE GLOBE!

Doc, I am not 100% sure on this, but I think the design is a coreless valve for some sort of engine. Hence the name "VALVE-O-LINE". The oil is for lubricating the valves. Someone slam me if I am wrong, I am a big boy and can take it. LOL

Roger's correct.......it's an engine valve, and it's the FIRST oil industry registered trademark. Many early signs and cans include "Trade Mark Reg. 1873"......and even earlier ones show the date as "October 14, 1873".

I bet Jim has gotten lots of phone calls and emails wanting him to end the auction early!
We should know in a few days what everyone thinks its worth. The serious bidding usually happens in the last 20 seconds.
Thanks Roger and Richard for the info on the logo and the trademark info.
My guess is it will be bid to between 5K and 6K but won't meet the reserve. If you owned it would you sell it for that?

3451.00 reserve not met. Maybe the damage on the back side affected it a little. Still a GREAT globe.
