First off it is an unmarked repop. That is a big enough red flag for me. Easy for a new collector and sometimes veteran collector to get fooled.
This sign has issues besides being unmarked.

I put an offer in on the sign... $2.01, I know that I offered too much... But, it is "The Christmas Season"...

Dan, IMO, you gave a good answer to Mike's question...

Mike, If you have ever seen a real one in person, you would be able to discern between the two. The most obvious is the green on this sign is wrong, too light, and the graphics are crude compared to the original. There are other differences too that the TEXACO guys will have to weigh in on.

I can't think of all of the differences, but here's a few. The ships mast should be centered. No rack marks on the back. Should be able to read all of the writing on the Speed boat, etc. Should be dated. Should not have bright white back. I looked at this sign briefly when it was still on Ebay and the guy indicated that it was probably after market! Best to not consider buying one of these signs, if you haven't been in the hobby a long time. Or at least consult someone. Don't know if this helps anyone, but it gave me something to do.

Thanks for heads-up, Butch!

Also, isn't the print "MADE IN U.S.A." dead give away?

An ORIGINAL(one brought good money recently) does not have it.
