...what's the verdict on this? I think the back looks...weird...


Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

IMO, fake. Rusty back raises a red flag.

Really? Maybe in Cali. Up here in the rust belt thats not necessarily so. Or do you mean with large areas that never received porcelain on the back and are rusty maybe?

Rusty back signs that are from other countries are completely void of porcelain. There are original porcelain signs that have rust on the back but also have some porcelain too. This particular sign looks strange on the back. I have never seen a back that looks quite like this. Size of sign seems more strange to me. Have not seen a sign that size with a message like that, should be bigger or smaller. Bigger for the side of a bldg, smaller for a pump plate. My opinion is that it is a fake but not completely because of the back. There are plenty of fakes out there that have porcelain on the back also. You cant go with that one indicator of rust on the back and call it a fake. There are other factors to look at too. Get out and do some comparing at the shows and picking out a fake becomes easier.
