About a month ago a friend of mine at the flea market had a 1990 repo Skychief sign with a Petrox sign attached. I told him the Petrox was real and the Skychief was a repo. He did not know the difference. He sold me the Petrox very reasonably and indicated he might be able to get a few more.
This past weekend my friend sold me eight more Petrox signs again very reasonable.
I posted a picture on this chat line and a friend sent me a pm to let me know he thought they looked funny. I have a few NOS ones I bought many years ago so I pulled one out to compare. Take a look and see what y'all think. I think there are some good repro's out there to be careful off.

Top one {older}is thinner and has a twang like a saw when you shake it. The color has a yellowish tinge from age. It has a higher gloss and better shelving of the enamel paint. No paint on the back.

The super-charged is done very well. The only difference I see is very slight in the r of super.

...thanks for taking the time to post this, Henry...hopefully you've kept someone else from being fooled...
Looking for better Gulf items: signs, globes, cans and paper - especially porcelain Gulf flanges, and Gulf A-38 & A-62 ad glass...

Well it's understandable. They are made quite well. If Gulfiend had not mentioned for me to check into them. I would have been trying to sell them as real at the show next week. Now they will be priced and stated as repro. I try my best to learn what is real and what is not but I have gotten stuck on several items over the years. It's all a part of the learning process.
I have found from years of looking at things that quite often my gut will warn me if something is not right. This comes with lots of experience.
