Hey Everybody,
I was just catching up on reproduction signs and that reminded me of a Skelly Aviation pump sign that I saw in MO on my Christmas Vacation in an Antique Store. The kinda looked like the Shell Sign posted by Dick Bennet exept it had a couple of other markings in Black - almost like postal Marks on stamps. There were no copy right marks or officially licensed marks. The back of the sign did not have the porcelain on the back like originals. They wanted $96.00 for it. I passed on it cause I have never seen an original aviation sign. I dont want to burn $96 on something I know Vics sells for 20 - 30. Was there any Skelly Aviation Pump Signs or are these just Fantasy pieces?
Thanks in advance,
Easy

This is the Cities Service example of the one Dick is talking about I think. These cost about $18.00 online. You called it a "pump sign" though so I was wondering if you saw something different? [This message has been edited by the poor mans museum (edited 01-11-2005).]

Hey Everybody,
Yeah, that looks like the sign Jim posted...Except the two black postal marks are lower down on the sign, under the airplane wings. The sign hads some chips on edges and might have been aged with little rust.
Thanks for posting!!
Did any of these companies have aviation signs?
Thanks,
Easy

Yeah, check out the Sinclair beauty that Bettin posted on showcase. That was the real deal but there are smaller repop versions of that one too.
I'm sure that there are other aviation plates that are real too, but they are rare and would be a steal for $96.00.
