I came across and purchased a nicely done Gilbarco 101 in Gulf colors. I don’t see much on this pump other than the they may have been used specifically for Gulf, and I have not had much luck finding pictures of them. Any ideas or direction?

Gilbarco made the 101 from 1939 to 1955. There was also a twin available. There 101 Model number was used on many pumps, more important is what follows the 101. The made a 101 A-1, 101- A-2, 101C, 101DC, 101DB-1, 101DB-2, 101DC-1, 101E, 101DE and actually all the Model Numbers began with a "M." All these models differ somewhat, the early ones have a square bezel around the face and the later models have a a bezel with cut off corners. My new Gas Pump book will have color pictures of two of the models.
Here is some information I have on the pumps.

Thanks Jim that’s 2 pumps you’ve been able to help me out with. I will do some looking and attempt to locate a model number. As of now I haven been able to locate an I.D. Tag per se. I do believe there is a circular bezel by a rest handel opposite of the hose and nozzle that my have something on it. The doors have a vertical stainless steel trim that runs on both sides with a center stainless piece. The bezel is square but the corners are rounded. I will try to up load pics I suck at doing them FYI.

When I said square I was talking about your pump as apposed to the one with the cut off corners. You have either a M101E or a M101C. The only difference I can find between the two has to do with the pumping mechanism in the bottom of the pump, the outside is identical on both models.

Some information about the Gulf pumps. It has never been determined who designed these pumps, Gulf or the pump companies. Some of my parts manuals have "Gulf" printed on the cover, others just say "Gilbarco/Erie/Southwest, etc." I have Erie literature on a similar pump, one parts manual says Gulf, the other says Erie. My assumption is that Erie somehow was allowed to sell the pump to anyone. The Gilbarco literature just states Gilbarco, no mention of Gulf, so possibly this pump was offered to anyone, possibly as a low cost pump.

Incidentally, none of my Gilbarco literature shows the piece of trim that is at the bottom of your pump below the Gulf sign.

Could very well have been an added piece a previous owner thought would look cool or something. Thanks again for the help.

Attached is a picture of my Gilbarco 101 (middle pump), or at least I believe it is a 101 but there is no data plate and, while it appears to be very original, there are no holes for one.

The doors wrap around the side panels and there are holes for corner trim.

The trim piece on Corey1955's pump looks identical to the lower trim for a National A38 sold by Gas Pump Heaven and I believe this is an add on as Jack suggested.

Also attached is a photo (sorry for all of the clutter but this time of year the garage is kind of full) of my double Gilbarco and the data plate which shows the model number as 101DC1L.

Wow awesome, thanks Hardy for the picture. I kinda figured that center piece was an add on. And yes the center one with access panel is just like mine. When you open one side there is a little pull chain that when pulled moves a little arm and allows you to see how many gallons had been recorded by the computer. On the other side appears to be some type of plunger like a safety stop believe. Mine is missing the inner workings.
