Hi, I just put a bid on this sign but then I got suspisious regarding the REG TM... was this present on the black T signs? If it was, are there any reasons to believe this sign is not original?

The sign is 29".

It is a double sided sign.

I have never seen this version "Gasoline/Motor Oil" in size (29") or 30" sign in the US. I think I have seen a picture of the sign in a tomb stone shaped frame, but because of the lack on mounting holes and the size; it would most certainly be a lolipop sign. So the new holes make sense. The size of the sign makes me very suspicious. The quality of the graphics (layout, curve, font, sizes of lines, spacing, etc.) look pretty good from the picture. Another thing that bothers me a little is the color of the green T. That is all I can tell you from the picture and I can not comment on how foreign signs were Trademarked. And I can't give you a definite opinion from a picture. It should have good/heavy shelving. Good luck!

Thanks Coltex!
I would assume it is an American sign.. ours had the text BENSIN MOTOROLJI.OR and were single sided, or two signs mounted together.
As it has only two holes, by Aand N, could it have been mounted from a small pole or do you think lollipop even with the holes?

Claes,
Here is a picture of mine. As Coltex said, these are usually found in the 42" size (mine is 42"). I've never seen one in 29" or 30". Maybe they were that size in the foreign market but I've never seen it. If you compare yours to mine, the "Reg. T.M." and "Made by the Texas Company" font don't look right to me. They look computer-generated in the picture. It's hard to describe until you compare an original and a fake sign with computer-generated graphics side-by-side. Once you do, you know what to look for. I also agree with Coltex that the green is too dark in the "T" but that might just be the lighting. I would not be comfortable buying that sign.

Thank You, Brian!
I can certainly agree that the fonts are a bit different...

thanks for the responses, guys!
I informed the seller of your info and he has done some checking of his own, and has now withdrawn the auction!
Thanks a bunch! :-D

I've never seen that sign in my life, in a 29 or 30" version. The "Reg TM" sure looks like a computer font to me, even though it is hard to tell in that picture. Plus the spacing between the letters in Reg TM looks wrong. There are several sizes of this sign faked on eBay. 24", 26", 30". I'd stay far away from anything other than a 42" (which I think they are now faking as well).

The guy in Hixton, TN known as krn2013 sells almost nothing but fakes on eBay (a disgrace to the hobby) has a 24" Texaco under his sold listings and the REG TM font and spacing looks exactly the same as the sign in question.

I would say that sign is fake.

The size of the sign is your clue
