Hey guys,
moved this to general petro discussion .
This is how I did mine outside Mike
Thats sweet! gasoildude
Love that barn too. How old is it?
I have 100+ year old barnbds on one wall of my mancave, so I won't be covering that up.
I'm hanging mine inside because my signs don't look good on vinyl siding.lol
HAGW,
mike
Hey guys,
lets see how you display your big (5'x6',2'x12',5'x5')signs.
I have a few and was wondering how to display them.
Wall or ceiling? Do I light them or not?
What did you do?
Thanx,
mike
This is the Only Big sign I have, I really like them but the Fact that they take up so much room keeps me from buying more of them. Now I just buy Pump Plate Signs because they are 12" X 12", 12" X 18" so I can buy alot more stuff.
I have see were people put Florecent Light fixtures on the wall behind the plastic signs so they can be lighted, personally with that type of sign that is what I would do. It would look impressive with all those big signs all lit up.
Description: 6' Imperial Refineries Sign..
When I lived in Wisconsin this is how I displayed my big signs. They're decorated for Christmas in this shot.
One of two large signs. I am working on a backboard for the 5'X 8' Pegasus cookie cutter.
Ed
here is a good way to display them....put them anywhere you have free space....i have a website under construction now & it will have some photos soon......

GREAT SIGNS guys,
I love the neons, but I guess I'll have to stay with the florecent tubes cause that would be the only thing payed for with my signs.
You guys have great ideas! Christmas lights look very good.
Thanx for your help,
HAGD
mike
Thanx Esse,

GREAT JOB!
HAGD,
mike

Just trying to learn how to post photos. Just can't get it right.
I just learned Imageshack (it was really quite easy) a couple weeks before things changed here. It still works fine for me.
That is one killer sign.
Rust,
That's gonna be one heck of a nite lite!
Looking GOOD!
mike
Craig,
you did just fine on the pics. GREAT SIGN.... does it lite up? and how in the world are you gonna hang it?(crane)
I just picked up another sign this weekend that has the "ok" used cars but its plastic on a wavy white back bd. It use to be mounted here about 45 years ago before the cloverleaf came thru, but at least i know the history of it.
HAGW,
mike
Folks,
Thought I would post some sketches for the bracket I built for the Shell sign just in case someone here needs some ideas for hanging their sign(s). Works great for a double sided sign that needs to hang flat on the wall.
Ed
Description: Close up of finished bracket. Ignore the cobb webs, at 14 feet up I don't dust often.
Description: Basic design of the bracket.
Description: Detail of the sign hangers.
If I have this figured out a picture of some of my boulavard pole signs will show up. Fortunatly I happen to have enough room to display them without causing a problem. Norm Huff.
And another shot of some shed hangers.
i was at norms last summer and all them big signs in a row are just one of the coolest things you will ever see!!
He definitely has an awesome display! They look even cooler at night when they're lit up! :-)
Ed , Thanx for the help on hanging the heavy signs! GREAT directions...
Norm...................
I don't know what to say!
Those signs and post look like they belong on Mt.Rushmore (or someplace like that, lol)
GREAT DISPLAY.
mike
Good to see how folks deal with their big signs. I get to enjoy one of mine in my office, pretty much takes up the whole wall. . . sweet.
NICE wall art! who needs wall paper and glue?
HAGW,
mike

STRICKLY BAD ASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those pole signs are AWESOME, love that standard !!
Here are a couple of pics.
Hey Norm,
We'll be coming back through your neck of the woods this Christmas on the way to MI. I'd be happy to get that Gulf sign out of your way. It'd look a _LOT_ better in front of my garage.
Best to you and the Missus,
Jim
HERE'S A FEW LONG ONES I'VE HUNG ON MY STOCKADE FENCE THAT RUNS 100+ FEET ALONG MY DRIVEWAY...
Craig, vintagecar, and DOC your signs and displays look GREAT
I think everybody puts their collection up in diffrent ways. Thats what makes the world go round! I finally got mine up but adding to it daily.

Hanging from the ceiling is a good idea Mike. Looks good. I would have the big Chevron outside but Michelle thinks that would be too much. Oh, and everybody needs a matching pricer sign.
Mike
I WANT GAS AT THAT PRICE! LOL!
Same here DOC!
Mike our wifes must have tha same thing in common, cause i made comment about putting up my big signs on the back side of my garage wall outside where she could not even see from the house..........(but you can from the road. lol)that didnt go over well,
HAGD,
mike
This didn't go over at all!!! At least I got a picture, before it came down.
Mike
I think that looks great!
"if mama ain't happy, nobody's happy"
HAGD,
mike
Considering what some of those old signs are worth, is anyone worried about theft when they're displayed outdoors. I think I would be.
Here are a few of mine. The Goodyear is 17 1/2' wide.
DP , I think that must be what my wife is thinking!.........not
lol.
bmclemore,
that is a sweet 'ol cola sign and the goodyear sign is straight too. (I can't say the same about mine)
Oldracer, nice signs and one cool TEXACO sunset!
HAGD,
mike
How about a topper for a pickup bed.
Mike
ONE OF THE NICER FEATURES OF THE HOUSE I BOUGHT AND MOVED INTO LAST SUMMER WAS THE 300' LONG STOCKADE FENCE ALONG THE ONE SIDE OF THE PROPERTY. 4' HIGH ALONG THE DRIVEWAY WHERE I HUNG MY LONG HORIZONTALS AND THE REAR 6' HIGH SECTION ABOUT 100' LONG ACCOMODATING MY LARGER AND ROUND SIGNS AS SEEN IN THIS PANORAMIC....
(CLICKABLE THUMB)
That's Cool Doc!!! About time you snapped a picture of all those big Signs for Us!!!
Now that's a fence!! Hope those posts are in good shape...........there's some big time weight hangin' there!!
Richard
I could sit in that chair and admire those big signs for a long time..Very Nice.
Looking good there Doc
First attempt:
I like ALL of the large signs. JC327 you have GOOD taste in cars and have all 5 years covered. I remember the days when 55 - 57 Chevys were the cars everyone was looking for and no one would sell but 58 chevys were free just to get them out of their yard. Keep the large sign pictures coming guys

JC, great photo of your signs & Chevs!! Big Block, Big Body, Bigger is Better!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UNIQUE TEXACO shelving unit. LOL
here's a few of mine
Jerry
Shouldnt the railroad crossing sign be by your caboose?
You dont trust it over on this side of the mountains do you?
41 Packard,
Very nice display!
Does the RR wig/wag work w/ roll-up door ?
Rick - this way I can keep my eyes on it - over there it would be in somebody else'e yard - I also have a semaphore for the caboose but it hid away also.
As for the crossing sign - it does light up and the bell does ring but only when I hit the switch.
That would be SOOO COOL to have that RR sign flash when the garage door goes up and down along with one of those warning bells!
Hey Jerry....I think you just live a few doors down from my brother. I met you last year when came out to Sea Bash. How have you been?
Alex,
You are correct - all is well - most of the time is spent on the car but still collecting a few signs and parts for the pumps
Hope all is well with you - stop by next time your in town
We were out there in September to watch Ichiro hit a two run homer in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Yankees. I wanted to bring my wife down to meet your wife to show her that gas pumps look great upstairs and how to decorate a house with oil and gas. Next time out we will stop by.
JUST HUNG THESE THREE ON MY 20' SHED....
I EVEN SCRUBBED OFF THE GREEN MOLD ON THE LOWER 8" OF THE SHED JUST TO SHOW I'M NOT LAZY! LOL! JUST GOTTA FINISH THE FRONT UNDER THE CALSO.
Looks god Doc. Hope you had some help. I have hung these big signs by myself. Even the ones on my barn. Some of those are 20 feet up. Glad the wind didnt pick up
MY HELPERS WERE A COUPLE OF MILK CRATES! AND THEY ARE MOUNTED IN A MANNER THAT THE BACK OF THE SIGN IS NOT FLAT (TOUCHING) AGAINST THE SHED.
I AM NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THE MOUNTING OF A HEAVY D/S PORC SUNOCO DIAMOND SIGN THAT IS 4X6' OVER A DIFFERENT SHEDS DOORS. GONNA NEED A LADDER FOR THAT ONE!
You will know what I mean when you get them heavy signs on a ladder with ya lol
I'm suffering from sign envy.
Same as above! I like all your signs as well as your eye for odd thoughts like CHRISTMAS Pictures in the middle of oldgas
Doc, I like all your signs also. Jack
REMEMBER THE SHELL COMBO I PICKED UP IN JULY? ONE 8'ER AND A 12'? HERE'S HOW THEY ENDED UP ON MY NEW 8X12' SHED:
THE 8' ON THE 8' SIDE AND THE 12' ON THE 12' SIDE....DON'T THINK IT WOULD WORK THE OTHER WAY AROUND! LOL!!!
MY NEIGHBORS (FARM STAND) CHAIN LINK FENCE KEEPS ME FROM GETTING A BETTER CLEAR ANGLE OF THEM....SO THIS IS IT!
