I just came across an eBay auction for a 5 gallon Reliable Motor Oil can with the inscription "Trustworthy As It's Name". Anybody have a history of this co or the can itself? Nice looking can with good red and green graphics. I've collected cans (particularly 5 gal) for a while now, but have never seen Reliable Motor Oil before. eBay auction item #270772564763.
Thanks!

Reliable was a brand of motor oil marketed by Spur Distributing Company out of Nashville, TN from the 1930s through the early 1950s. In the 1950s this product, a bulk grade oil, was rebranded Durable, a name under which it was sold thru the late 1980s. Reliable, being a bulk grade (low grade) oil was sold primarily in 2 gallon cans, but was also offered in matching 5 gallon and more rarely, quart, cans.
