I am designing a frame for a clock to fit into an A-38.
The computer is 12" long.
The clock body is 12 3/4" long.w/o hand shaft
The specs on the faces are the same.

So how is a unit 3/4 " longer than the computer, with the same dimension faces, fitting into the same cabinet????????????

I have decided to make the unit 12" long just for the fact that I know a 12" computer will fit.

Gator......???? anyone?????

Define your dimensions. What exactly do you mean by "long"?

Long = end to end, as in length.
A standard computer is 12' long , end to end ,inside face to inside face.A small computer is 8" end to end.

Simple..... Wasn't the clock face mechanism a pump manufacturers part, and the VR computer a universal component? The face plates on the clock face pump, don't dish as much as the computer pump. Obviously, they didn't need to. Extend the length of the clock face shafts....

As I stated, Specs on faceplates are the same.

Actually more room is needed for hands, they protrude from face....computer wheels are behind the face.

That would mean the faces would need to be inset, and deeper, by logic anyway....less than or equal to the length of a computer.
The Bennett 77 is shorter than a computer

If the hand shaft is too long it will hit the glass

Hence my request that you define your dimensions! Its funny how you try to bring logic into one of your discussions.

And so far you have not been able to answer my question, mearly digging at my request.
Do you know anything about or have you ever owned a B-38???? Or are you just harrasing me

Simple.... Look at the relief of the faceplates. If you are trying to make a VR computer, at 12 inches, work in the place of a clock mechanism, at 12 3/4 inches,(which by the way you dont have) then you need to change something by 3/8 of an inch on each side! Simple. Reduce the dimension of the relief, on the faceplate.... So helping you is now harassing you? Have a nice day!

Are you trying to use a VR frame to hold the new clock mech. ?

This is the frame I designed and is similar to the 77 I made. It will mount similar to the way a B-38 clock mounts, since the original clock reset shaft comes out at a different place than the computer, I designed a gear train to drive/reset the unit to be able to utilize the computer reset hole, in case the pump had aready been restored.

I realize there is a weird offset to the original hands..that tucks the hand collars almost inside the face. But Ron's face do not allow that to be done, and actually is easier this way .does the 12 3/4" length of the original clock put the hands right up next to the glass???
leaving maybe 1/4" between face and glass?

I made this frame 12" so it should fit , right???It has been years since I have had an A-38

Here it is finished with faces on.
There is 1/4 " from the outer face of the outer hand to the outer edge of the face.
Think it will fit without hitting any glass????

Man you must have had a erector set as a kid.LOL That is some nice work you have done there,I can't imagine the time that goes into all of that.I can't help with your problem, but wanted to say thats some nice craftmanship.

how are they?

Thanks.....just like the computers, I have more time in them than anything else.
Yes ...I had a hand me down Erector set that was my brothers.....I used to take my mechanical toys apart to see how they worked.
Telephones , calculators, appliances,
I got my a** tore up several times by DAD for doing stuff like that!!!!!

I like a challenge....each new clock is another challenge.
For instance , the faces on the national are set up at 5 gallons per 1 revolution of the outer hand.... I had to design a pentagonal bell trip cam......to get the bell to ring 5 times per revolution.
Neccessity....what a MOTHER!!!!!!

Dices,
I don't quite understand the ?

If you are inquireing about how they work,
you turn the reset knob and they will work as if the meter was turning the unit, the back hand will keep up with gallons as the outer hand turns, then with a reversal of rotation of the reset knob , the unit will reset. They will also chime on the gallon.

All the original clocks I have ever had, all you can do is reset them.....not much fun there.
