This is what got me started in collecting Union 76!!
Jim can you tell what the sign says to the right of your mom's head...??
Looks like a BA sign. You guys still had visible pumps in 65?
I agree it looks like B/A. What is B/A doing in the USA? Unless that is the Canadian side in the background. Sumas is situated at the Canada USA border.
Jim will have to let us know for sure.
I'm wondering if it's the rectangular "B/A Credit Cards Accepted Here" sign, that would be in other branded stations in Canada and mainly U.S. Alex Colwell has a picture of one on his website. Hopefully Jim will be able to remember.
Ken.
Was thinking it was a B/A credit cards accepted here but couldn't tell for sure.
Good morning. Yes, the sign was WE HONOR B/A credit cards. Sumas was a border town, our station was about 50 feet from the crossing. The visible pump was still in and working in 1965. We would use it some when the power went out. The pump was sold to a colletor and I visited it for many years. Tried to track it down a while back and the gentleman had passed away and the family sold everything off. Did anyone purchase a pump from the Ron Harriman family in Everson WA?
The station building was pretty much the same in 1965, with an additon of a lube bay added to the left side. 2 years later the front office part was demolished and the back building was added on to create the new station. Somewhere we have pics of a track hoe lifting the whole roof of the office into a side dump trailer. UNION OIL DEALER signs still in place! I alway remember the day with loaded the round top COKE machine in the local garbage truck!!
The BA sign was on our sign post under the UNION 76 sign.
That is sooo cool! Thanx for sharing with us all.
I will keep a eye out for pieces for that collection.
is the square 76 neon still up & working?
if so would you post a picture of it with neon on?..
did you get the showcase pumps???
Picture I posted last was early 40's. Neon sign and showcase pumps were long gone by 1965.
such a cool pics, thanks for
