know little to nothing about old gas pumps and have the chance to buy my first ever pump.

im sure its a bennett because it says so on the white curved metal internal face plate. not sure of the exact model as i only seen it so briefly and in very, very poor light. it looks similar to the 900-1000 series shown in vics '07 catalog.

apparently had been actually pumping gas just shortly before its removal and has been just sitting around ever since. it is appears most complete including hose and nozzle etc. although its not all rusted out, it sure does need some sand blasting, paint plus ??? and possibly other tlc restoration tidbits, etc.

was the face plate cover lens on these units clear plastic or glass. they are plastic now and look to need replacing.

what kind of coin, ball parking it should this pump be worth for a novice to buy.

thanks db.

sure going to go back and see the fellow again. need to have a much better eyeball of this pump but it would appear based on your thoughts that... this guy wont be getting his first gas pump anytime soon, as he said he needs $500 for it.

suppplement question mr speaker please. if i may.

do many have their pumps... connected, hooked, wired or whatever, to appear as if they will pump gas, etc.

Lets see, better CHOSE MY WORDS CAREFULLY THIS TIME !

Most appear to be in working order, BUT most are GUTLESS [motor, pumping & measuring mech have been removed]. On some clockface pumps the guts are the frame. & most visibles need the pump to hold the handle.

was referring to one seen recently. not a visble etc. just kind of a standard 50's style pump. where they first would crank the reset handle. after which take and squeeze the nozzle lever handle and ta-dah! the numerical wheels turned... just as if it were actually pumping gas.

thought it was way cool and made me want to get one like that too, eh!

Quite a few people do hook up gear motors to the computer driveshaft. That way, you can use a switch to see the computer run, and then you can reset it.

I know one gugy, Norm Huff (cmeon66), who took the extra steps to actually restore the "guts." His pumps actually run (just pumping air), so you get the truly authentic sound and feel.

Pretty much everyone wires up the lights, of course. I've heard of some people hooking their gear motor to a microswitch in the nozzle so it only runs while you're pulling the trigger.

If the pump has a sight glass or visi-gauge, I've heard of other people attaching hair dryers inside the pump to themanifold pipes. The air spins the spinners, which has got to look pretty cool, too.

The particular pump you've found sounds a little pricey. If he won't negotiate a lot, I'd hold out - you can do better price-wise.

need some more of your great expertise in identifying this said pump.

had a brief opportunity to view this unit again... still laying back in this dark old warehouse and noted:

- 3pc w/2 little spears front mounted sight glass thing looks to only have a solid plate mounted inside the outer ring
- actual sight glass bubble with the balls inside it is on the side
- does not appear to have ever had any type of ad glass whatsoever mounted in/or on this machine
- the reset lever/handle seems to be somehow inter-connected to the nozzle removal prior to pumping gas
- still cant read the side mounted id tag as it appears to have been painted over at some point

thanks again guys. maybe we could take a flashlight next time, eh

I believe that on that model, the solid plate over the front sight glass hole can be replaced with a small round ad glass. There are a few shown in the Gas Pump Restoration book.

I could be wrong, as I don't have my book here, but I think that's the model that used those.

although i have found nothing much in the way of pics that show a side view with its inter-locking reset lever, the bennett model 1066 sounds good to me, eh

as there is no larger/lower face ad glass hole, was there ever a rectangular surface mounted frame available for these pumps
