I own a house built in 1905. There was a hand gasoline pump in our garage when the house was built, but it has been removed - just the pipe from the tank remains in the floor. I would like to replace it with one from around 1905 or so. A neighbor's garage still has one from 1913 and it looks like a large water pump with a hose. Somewhere in our backyard is an underground gas tank, but that is another story. I see lots of commercial pumps for sale, but not "home" models.

Thanks,

Ken

WELCOME TO OLDGAS
I suggest a Bowser 41;
http://petrolianacollectibles.com/bowser%2041.htm
OR a Gilbert & Barker T-6;
http://petrolianacollectibles.com/gb%206.htm

Both were large companies of the times & pumps are fairly easy to find when you know what to look for.

Dick,

Thank you so much!! I did not know where to start or the brands to search. I only found one posting on the internet.

Thanks again,

Ken

Ken keep a eye out on ebay or put a ad in the want section here. You can get these for fairly cheap as many people dont collect them. I think when they are all polished & painted up they are nice looking.

I agree, the Bowser 41 is the model I've seen the most of in old carriage houses and home garages. In fact, there's even one for sale here in town out of an old garage, but the guy has been watching too much Barrett Jackson or Pickers, and wants 3 grand for it.

The usually go for 250-350 when they're really nice and have good original finish and patina (always stored inside).

What you are looking for were refered to as "Private Garage" pumps, back in 1905.
