Hello,
I would like to trade stuff for a original globe body for my pump. I have lots of cans, a pump, and tons of patches! PM me if you have one!
Thanks
Noah
What type of globe and brand ?
13.5", and I don't care if is glass, or metal. And if glass, would like it black, or white. It is for the golden rule lens on my aviator pic.
13.5 metals are repo and glass bodies only come in white unless you are looking for a ripple body and black was not one of the colors.
ok then, a glass one will work.
For your 50's short electric pump, what you have (plastic body) is period correct. Also most economical choice. You can use the money you save towards the restoration.
ok, I am selling a huge collection of Playmobil. I hope to get $800-$1000 for it, that should be enough to finish my pump and more. Thanks dave!!!
noah, without being rude,do your home work on globes.it's going to take time.Later!
You aren't being rude, I do need to do some homework. I might have to buy some books.
Noah, instead of buying any books just yet. I suggest you invest in the new Globe CD of Scott and Wayne....
I'm not a "Globe Guy" per se. But I can honestly say; That this CD is a great investment....
I put it on Christmas list....
Slow down Noah, Be patient, research. buy the books, Guide to Gas Pump Globes CD. order the catalogs. Vics , Gas Pump Heaven .
So you don't get burned
Just some friendly advice from one collector to another.
i agree, good idea Bob, Noah,if you sit down and go through the CD you will learn alot.Lyle
That is why I put it on my list for NEED TO BUY. I will look into the books. Thanks allot guys!!!
Thanks
Noah
Noah, from what I've read.... Everyone is giving you great advise...
IMO, Collectors in this Hobby go through different stages as they collect.... As such, it is very easy to get overwhelmed.
All too often the "new Collector" will try to add items to their Collections too quickly... When this happens, mistakes can be made... Paying too much for items or seeing items without really looking closely at them and in the end buying a fake/fantasy and/or "refurbished" item that is really in the long run not worth owning...
Hopefully you have a long future in the Hobby.... Taking a little time and having some patience now.... Should help you out as you progress with your Collecting....
(honestly... I am envious of you... I remember when I started collecting.... Items were at times difficult to find... You have started collecting at a time where because of sites like Oldgas and Ebay, gas shows and the internet.... The "whole Collecting World" is laid like a buffet before you.... Just take a "step back" and enjoy..... I honestly think that you will be happier, if you slow down some and take a couple deep, deep breaths)
But, I'm an "Old Fart" and I sometimes, (too often) poke my nose into other people's business......
Thanks Bob, I have learned that the hard way. I bought a Indian motorcycle sign for $50, and I thought it was a fake. But I got burned, I found out a few weeks ago that it was real. And it was worth $200... I was so mad because I sold it on craigslist for $20.
I don't mean to go on a rabbit trail, just my short story of learning it the hard way. I just love learning more, and more about this awesome hobby!! Thanks for all the advice, I owe you guys one.
Thanks
Noah
I have one more question, what would be the best book to buy in my stage of collecting??
Guide to Gas pump Restoration: Not just for restoring pumps but shows correct colors for pumps and globes and pump plates and the years they were used. Pretty useful information IMO.
I agree with Nelson's choice...
Here at my home; the PCM Guide, Jack's 2nd Edition and the Globe CD all sit within reach of my computer, at all times. Plus, I have a copy of Jack's pump book and the 1st edition of the PCM Guide in the Subaru at all times....
Noah,
I agree with everyone else. I have two copies of Jack's 2nd pump book - one in the house and one in my truck. I also have both PCM guides (old and new); and I have the new Globe CD loaded on my computer, iPad, and iPhone, so I have it with me all of the time. Also, talk and visit with petro collectors whenever you can; there are quite a few very knowledgeable people in Michigan alone.
Good luck, in the hunt!!
Buddy
I got the globe CD... I love it!
