Last night I was told that long time Iowa Gas vendor and pump collector Russ Crowner suddenly passed away on Saturday night. Russ was a friend of mine for 29 years and he was always setup at Iowa Gas just outside of the rear hotel exit on the corner. At one time, Russ had more than 200 visibles and other pumps, such as rare clock faces and electric pumps. He collected rare globes and signs, as well as, being a Goodyear collector and owned several stores around the Ames & Des Moines area. Always friendly to all who stopped by. He was very generous to my son when he was a small boy, giving him items such as Goodyear Blimp toys. RIP Russ, you were one of the great ones!

I did not know Russ, although I am sure that I had dealings with him. RIP.

We met Russ the first year we traveled to Iowa gas and it was always one of our stops when we headed out to the swap meet each year. Always a smile and a hello to us and that will be missed. Rest in peace my friend. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends. There will be one less friendly face at IG this year!
