This may have been posted before so please forgive me if I’m repeating something but I didn’t see anything after doing a Google search.

I travelled to Fort Wayne Indiana this past weekend to attend a 50th fraternity reunion. When I mentioned my passion for collecting old gas pumps one of the brothers stated that he worked for Tokheim as a mechanical engineer back in the 1980’s. He went on to tell me that the factory was only a couple of blocks away from our college campus and that it had been closed for a number of years. I graduated in 1971, and never heard of Tokheim at the time, but that was well before I became interested in gas pumps in 1995.

Once I knew the factory was nearby I asked if he could take me by it. Attached are a couple of pictures I took. There are a couple of the main plant entrance and another showing the water tower with the Tokheim logo clearly visible. It was kind of neat to see where so many of my pumps came from.

Seems like a great spot for a Petroliana museum with a restaurant in it. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Thanks for posting the pics. Looks like a very sturdy building, worthy of preservation. I agree, a museum would be cool.
I assume it's totally abandoned by the looks of things....?

The building looked solid but it appeared to be completely abandon. Sits close to a railroad so there is quite a bit of noise at times. Didn't have time to walk around it. The guys with me really couldn't understand my interest.

In the late 80's I met with an lawyer in their corporate office to get their approval
to make replacement faces etc. for the old pumps. They arranged a tour for me of that factory. There was a super nice original pump just inside that door.
I can't remember if it was a 34 or 870. The plant manager was a guy in his 40's who didn't know much about the history of the company. On the second floor he proudly showed me an example of the visible pumps they made in the 20's.
IT WAS A WAYNE 615!!! Before I left I told him what they had on display...

That is too funny, showcasing a Wayne pump inside of the tokheim factory & they didn't know it was a Wayne pump!! I wonder if they took it outta there after you told them? They probably thought you were nuts Ron!! Chris

Great pics, I recently finished the restoration of a Tokheim model 34 pump. Nice to see where it was manufactured back in the day.
Thanks for sharing these photos. The Wayne pump display story is too funny!
