My wife I attended the Barrett Jackson Auction in Palm Beach on Saturday. One of the items up for auction was the following Texaco Museum Display. Selling price was $72,600. The following is the official description and pictures I took at the Auction ENJOY!

Description
This Texaco Collection is the history of the Texas Company from its beginning in 1903 and 1929. There are three periods of time represented which includes a 1903 Studebaker Mule Drawn Tanker Wagon, a 1923 Ford Model-T Pickup Delivery Hack and a 1929 Ford Model-A oil and lubricants Delivery Pickup with all related pumps and dispensers restored to original condition. Many still have the original brass tags.

Cool stuff, but it's interesting that the Texaco Museum would have such poorly researched "restored" items. The fire chief globe, the cheesy repop decals and the "havoline" lubester to name a few. Did this stuff actually belong to Texaco? If it did they need to fire their company historian!

My thoughts exactly. Why would Texaco settle for second rate reproductions like these. And why would somebody pay that kind of money to buy them. You could own the same stuff accurately reproduced for the same cost or less??? The colors and logos are all wrong for the period and pieces.

Who knows? I guess if you have the money and you don't know any better.

They had a bunch of Texaco stuff that looks real similar to this stuff at Jackson Barrett Scottsdale in January

That's Barrett-Jackson for you. Same type of buyers who would pay $120,000 for a "recreation" car. They want the style and glamour but are mostly ignorant of substance. Just my take on it.

Items that sell particularly well at Barrett-Jackson are the what I call "overly restored" items that are nice in shiny, but not historically correct to the originals. Pricing is set at a premium, yet this stuff still sells.

I have a set of Texaco Fire Chief and Sky Chief Wayne 70s with accurate restoration and globes and plates that I would love to see what they would bring at an auction like this.

It's been my experience that at an auction like this, it really doesn't matter if the item has been acurately restored. Just as long as it looks good. Most of these buyer's don't have a clue as to what is correct nor do they care! Just me talking!
