The POTM for July is Tokheim 39 Talls. There are numerous versions of this pump.

The Tokheim 39-ESP was produced between 1938 and 1958, and was a computer pump with a hanging hose.

The Tokheim 39-HR was produced between 1939 and 1958, and was a four add glass panel pump with a hose on a reel.

There was also another Tokheim 39-HR produced between 1948 to 1951, which was a two add glass panel pump with a hose reel and roller guards near the bottom.

The Tokheim 39-WNC-HR was produced between 1939 and 1958, and was a two add glass panel pump with a hose reel.

The Tokheim 39-WNC was produced between 1939 and 1958, and was a non-computing pump with two add glass panels and a hanging hose.

The Tokheim 39-SL was produced between 1939 and 1958, and was a two add glass panel pump, with a stationliter.

The Tokheim 39-TW was produced between 1939 and 1958, and was a Tidewater special pump, with four add glass panels. It also had a all glass globe.

I have also seen a Tokheim 39-VP with two and four add glass panels, and hanging hose. A Tokheim 39-WNC-VP, which was a non computing pump with four add glass panel, with hanging hose.

For the breakdown of the pump I will do the Tokheim 39-VP two and four add glass version.

I have seen two different bases for this pump. The upper base is cast and was used on the four add glass pump. The one on the bottom is steel and was used on the two add glass pump. Someone cut a piece out of this base on the upper right corner. The bases are 19" X 24".

The door latch assy. on the top is used on the cast base. The one on the bottom is used on the steel base. The pivot point goes on the side with the hose outlet.

The picture on the top shows the legs which are 69 3/4" long. It also shows the frame top and short stabilizer bars. The picture on the bottom shows how these pieces fit together on the top. The hinge brackets go on the side with the hose outlet.

This is the light assy., with push button on and off switch. The push button goes on the side with the hose outlet.

These pictures show the manifold with spinners. All of the spinners that I have found are broken or break when I disassemble them. There are reproductions but I prefer to make my own. I use the original center piece and cut new pieces out of light tin and paint them with bright red and hunter green rattle can paint. I then insert them into the original center and put a 5/16" retaining ring for a spacer. A touch of JB weld or supper glue will hold them in place.

I have seen two different hinges on the tall 39. The one on the left is the normal one found on the pump. The one on the right is a two-piece hinge and is usually found on some 39 short pumps. I have seen this hinge on a tall pump but some one might have used it after breaking a hinge. There is a right and left hinge, as shown in the picture.

The pictures shows the pieces that hold the meter to the frame. The picture on the top shows the cast style that is used on the four add glass pump. The picture in the middle and on the bottom shows the one used on the two add glass pump. The single mount side goes on the side with the hose outlet.

The top picture shows the nozzle hanger and shut off. The bottom picture shows the turn back assy.

The doors are 70" long and are not interchangeable from front to back

This picture shows the brackets used to hold the front window and add glass to the door. The rubber spacer that I have removed between the door and glass was round stock, and I use a clear stock, you can pick up at most hardware stores. Some people have started using the R101 channel rubber for the spacer.

The sides are 72 1/2" tall. The third picture down shows the door trim that fits between the add glass and the window. The picture on the bottom shows the hose outlet cover and nozzle receiver, and nozzle receiver bezel.

Very nice work Richard. I like 39's. Of course it was my first.

I have an adapter to turn the computer. I love the sound of the bell and the clicks as it turns. One of my projects is to mount a motor to turn it rather than my drill. There was some discussion about that a few months back.

I am in need of a Chevron Supreme globe for it but the colors of the Derby Star work for now.

You forgot about the Cast Aluminum Base. I have two 4 ad glass models, one with Cast Iron Base, one with Cast Aluminum Base. I also have a 2 ad glass with the stamped steel base.

Mike thanks for the info, I've never run accross a cast aluminum base for a 39, is it the same mold as the cast steel? There has to be more differences on these 39's, has anyone else run accross something different? Keep the posts comming. Richard

I will take a photo of my cast aluminum base this evening and post it. I think it is the same as the cast iron but haven't inspected that close.

Cast Aluminum base.

It's been a few years since I posted a pic of this pump, it's a tall 39 with three ad glass, all sides except for the hose side. Before I restored it the panels looked to be original to the pump. Globe is an original.

Mike thanks for the picture, looks like the same mold as the cast steel, and takes the same door mech.. Vern great looking pump and wish I had the globe. Maybe they felt the add glass would get broken on that side. Keep the pictures comming. Richard

When did the 39 switch from the aluminum face plate to the porcelain? I have also noticed some of the porcelain face plates that have the black around the gallon & price numbers.

Mike and Travis, wish I could answer your question. All I know is that the Aluminum face plates were early and that the sight glass bezel had Sight glass must be full before and after use on them while the porcelin ones were plain. Maybe some one else can come up with the answer.

Great looking pumps Tokheim and KD, keep those pictures coming. Richard

Nice pair of pumps. The clock face pumps show up now and then but not to many around that I know of. Nice thing about it is most of the parts are interchangable from the computer pump from what I know. Would be interested to know what is different besides the clock Meck. between the two. Richard

These pumps are identical except for a small hole on the side panel on the clock pump to reset the clock, and the frame where the clock unit mounts, is wider than where the computer pump mounts are.If you sit a computer in the clock pump frame, you can only bolt up 2 places instead of 3..The frame is 1/2 inch wider on 1 side in this area..Thanks.Brian....
