My dad and I have been working on a place to display our collection. We don't have alot of stuff or anything real high dollar but its still fun to have a place to enjoy what we have. Its getting close to be finished but still have more work to do. I thought that I would share some of our work with you.

Started from the ground up.

Wow!!! Outstanding job.

Did you secure the globes to the shelf?
Posted By: Bob Richards Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 04:17 AM
Great attention to detail, especially the tin ceiling and the globe rail. The Flying A station I worked at as a kid had a rusty "well worn" tin ceiling. I hope to add a faux tin ceiling to my 80+ year old kitchen.

WOW IM SPEECHLESS !
Posted By: Oldgas Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 10:57 AM
Wonderful! The art-deco shelf and tin ceiling really bring it back into the good old days. You've got me dreaming about a future building at my place.
Posted By: mobil100 Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 11:04 AM
Very nice! looks like a lot of thought was put in. nice detail on the ceiling and shelf.
Posted By: gasoildude Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 12:49 PM
Looks great. I also like the art-deco shelf & tin ceiling. I also like the mirage on the wall that is sweet!!!! smile
Posted By: Jarvis Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 01:17 PM
Like the building!! I have to ask did the 2x4's for the shelf screw to the side nefore drywall or is it screwed to the front? I know the glass body globes are heavy and at 20lbs apiece it doesn't take long for weight to add up. Where did you get the metal for the front of the shelf? I love the look of it!
Posted By: lordparaffin Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 02:15 PM
Absolutely beautiful!
Posted By: hillsideshortleg Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 02:36 PM
Wow!! Is that a floor to ceiling black and white photo? If it is where did you find it?
Thanks
Posted By: itsagas Re: My Home Station - Sat Oct 24 2009 02:56 PM
Thanks for the comments.
The globes are secure.
The shelf was built into the wall studs before the dywall it is very stong.
The metal front on the shelf, I built it. Started with 20 Ga. flat sheet, Broke into a C-channel, then it was run through the bead roller for the three lines, then I used a shrinker and stretcher to make the curved ends. Finally the paint.
The ceiling is actually wall paper, with crown moulding and then I masked it all off and sprayed Rustoleum Aluminum on it for the tin look. Everyone that walks into the room thinks it is a tin ceiling. But way more affordable.
And the mural on the wall is an ebay find, had to trim all the edges and put it up in two sections. Looking through the door gives it a shadow box effect and almost looks like a real station off in the distance.

Posted By: strnge Re: My Home Station - Fri Nov 13 2009 03:38 AM
Is the front of the shelf all one piece? Are there any seams?
Posted By: itsagas Re: My Home Station - Fri Nov 13 2009 04:53 AM
The shelf front is built in 3 pcs. approx. 10ft long each.

Here is a wood display case that I recently finished for a can display. I finished the wood smooth and painted with Base/Clear.

Posted By: strnge Re: My Home Station - Wed Dec 09 2009 07:28 PM
Can you post more photos of the wood display case? I want to do the same. Did you photograph it while you were building it?

That case is an old display case. It is a combination of solid oak and a oak veneer. I had to strip several layers of paint off and smooth out the wood then primed and filled any pits. This is the only pics I have of it before.

Posted By: strnge Re: My Home Station - Fri Dec 11 2009 05:44 PM
Any more of the inside of the building?

Here is a few new pictures.

We are looking for the correct cabinet for the cash register. If know of one for sale please let me know.

Tell us more about the cash register will ya'???? BTW I have a candy machine exactly like that one you have there. Can we get a detail shot of that too?
Posted By: itsagas Re: My Home Station - Fri Mar 19 2010 10:47 PM
I don't know much about the cash register. Its a National, polished brass and according to the serial numbers was made in 1923. It had an electric motor to run the receipt printer which is no longer hooked up. But the cash drawer and all the buttons still work as long as you follow the correct sequence. It is setting on an old music stand but it is not quite big enough and a little wobly. So we are looking for a correct National cabinet.

Here is a better shot of the peanut machine. Still need to get the lock open so we can clean it up and get it loaded up to see if it works.

Posted By: itsagas Re: My Home Station - Sun May 29 2011 03:02 AM

Well it has been awhile. blush We have too many projects and not enough time. grin

Here are some pics of the Lube Rack/Car Lift we built next to the station. The roof raises up with the lift. We also got a new Station lighter for the pump island and moved the street light to the back. And added some blacktop.

We have been looking for a Banjo pole for a long time. They are always too far away and usually way over my budget.

Hi Jeremy,

Nice to see you posting again,I missed you Buddy. The station is coming along great.I noticed your comment on a Texaco banjo pole.

I know of three of them here in ABQ;two with signs in them and one without a sign. All three guys are friends of mine. They are the kind of guys who know what they are worth and would be at about that if they will sell. They wouldn't try to "rip you off",but would probably price at about market value for here in ABQ.

Those things can get a little pricy if the signs are any good (they are displayable).Want me to check it out?

I hated that I didn't have time to stop in last month when I was close. Now I really wish it would have worked out! Your attention to detail shows in your cars and the station. I especially like the shop formed banding on the globe shelf.
