On TCM this morning a John Garfield movie "They Made me a criminal"1939 had a nice scene at a gas station. He drives up in a 28 Model A roadster pickup. The attendent tries to sell him premium out of the new calculating pump. He answers "gime the cheap" which is dispensed from a 1918 vintage blind hand crank Bowser or early Wayne. Don't know what the new pump was. Looked like a Wayne 60 style clockface but narrower and I believe calculating. Garfield asked him what the new pump set him back? The attendent said about $2000. Then told Garfield that he pumped "8 gallons, that will be a buck twenty eight". To which Garfield replys.. Charge It! He also asked about a can of oil at 30 cents. Also Mobil Gargoil sign.
