^^^No one ruins my day faster than Randy's posts on this thread... I get excited about an item that just 'might' slip thru the cracks, and sure enough every time it gets posted here... and usually ends up being bought outside of ebay and ended early. lol

i dont mind the posting so much, its the back-door offers that result in the items being pulled off ebay that is frustrating.
Sorry Bryce, but I think you are wrong on this one! You think that Randys posts add to the back door offers? Generally, I have seen most of the items he posts, except for items from catagories I don't watch, and then I find the posts educational. If an exceptional item pops up that you are interested in, you have the same back door as the other ebay members, so help yourself!
With the millions of people watching ebay, I can't believe that even one of Randys posts ever added to the price, or set up a back door Johnny that wasn't already there.
I mostly watch ebay to keep up with public trends and pricing, and occasionaly I bid on something, but I am there mostly for the daily schooling.
I for one, am very happy that Randy brings an occasional rare item to the front, in that we may all enjoy watching the ensuing bidding. I even like to add an item every now and then myself!
I seriously doubt that you have ever missed out on anything because of one of Randys posts! Please keep up with the "town Crier" and I will do my best to help out at times.
I hope you take my criticism for what it is--just an opinion-- and don't take offense from it.
Yes, I think his posts add to backdoor offers. It's not limited to this though, posting auctions after they've ended as well. Remember what happened when someone posted that paragon lollipop sign that showed up on eBay? Yeah, lots and lots of backdoor offers that eventually came at the cost of the original buyer.
And no offense taken at all... I can appreciate the value this thread adds for some people. But for me, it's done more harm than good... but it sounds like I'm in the minority. So my little rant is over, lol
If an exceptional item pops up that you are interested in, you have the same back door as the other ebay members, so help yourself!

I'm with Bryce on this one. Posting something a week or two after it has ended as an FYI is fine. The buyer should safely have his item and thus eliminate concerns about someone trying to back door and offer more than it "sold" for.
In my opinion, if you aren't interested in an item - let those who are seek it out and have fun trying to buy it. As Bryce mentioned, I doubt Randy is posting items that he is trying to buy before they end
. It's not getting out in the truck and driving the back roads, but it is still fun to find a listing on ebay that you hope may be falling through the cracks so to speak. Not a big deal and everyone sees it differently, but the thrill is in the hunt and this is kind of like going to a pheasant farm for the lazy hunters - LOL.
Making "back-door deals" (that sounds dirty, heh) after an auction has ended on eBay is low in my opinion. However, up until a deal is consummated (heh) by the gavel hitting the pedestal, it is all open market principles. Meaning, if, through an alternate venue, the seller finds someone willing to pay more, then so be it. The onus is on the seller to determine in which market (either an anonymous auction site or message forum) he/she would like to participate. I have no issue with sellers ending auctions early or sellers on this website opting to ignore offers from fellow members and opting for an auction site. Again, the only time I have an issue is when there is a meeting of minds and we have one of the parties reneg.
...more to the point, I like this "town crier" thread and enjoy an open discourse concerning the same.

IMHO this is the best looking shell sign out there! You did good, have them cut the pole off and add a new one when u get it if thats how ur going to display it! Its easy to ship w/o the pole....... Poles are a stop at the plumbing shop or a rusty one almost any where!

That one is the same as what I'm used to seeing... Notice the lack of insulators for the border... That's cause its border neon would of originally gone around the perimeter of the can, not on top of the sign like it shows... But most people redo them that way

Michael, the 3690. sign is from a 2 year old auction as this sign in auction is part of a 2 sided sign like Bryce mentions with the outer neon ring going around the can so this sign has been slightly altered from its original purpose

Fake Fake Fake. I own 4 of these signs and they are now faking this beautiful 4’ sign. There was a fake for sale in Wisconsin on Craigslist as well and another just popped up. Such a shame. These came out shortly after they started faking (fantasy) this in a pump plate.
Agree 100% the White Star shield is fake.....I did a double take when I first saw it listed and then started picking it apart, and it has a lot of problems.

I feel for you Bryce, it's certainly happened to me on Ebay before. Most memorably when a seller listed Transcontinental Marathon lenses for $125 each choice BIN. He had one orange and green runner lens and a bunch of Multipower lenses. Needless to say my BIN for the one runner lens was cancelled within a short time and I was told his kid broke the whole pile of them. Yeah right.....I left negative feedback as I knew it was all BS.
It's not a big deal. It's shady on the seller's part, but it's just pathetic on the part of the people that do the backdoor offering. They must live their lives in constant jealousy.

I ran this sign by a Shell collector friend,his take.Nothing wrong with it he has had one like it for 25 years and also one that reads "motor oil'.

Yep, definitely a fake sign. I notified the seller his sign was fake and that I know it for a fact, I have an original with the ring and pole in my collection, plus, most all reproduction porcelain sign have a white first layer of porcelain applied prior to any top colors to complete the finished sign. this is very noticeable at and around chipped areas on the sign. Not to mention there could be blemishes/pitting or imperfections in the finish, you may even think it was shot with a pellet or BB gun, but It's a dead give away. I did reach out to the seller and mentioned to him that he should change his listing and notify any bidders that it was a reproduction. He did responded, only by sending me a sad face emoji, yet he made no changes to his listing.
Over the years, this has been discussed many times here, yet as time goes on, this problem has become more prolific than ever! with more and more signs showing up with many more sellers not telling the truth and basically, selling their soles to make a few bucks. It's super frustrating to see unknowledgeable people get ripped off. I know what those buyers are going to feel like, once they discover they had been ripped off for $3000.00.
