While walking the dog late one night prior to garbage pick up day, noticed this Sack left out in the garbage a few streets over from mine. Inside was a bunch of pillowcases and sheets, so lugged it home with the dog and me. It is in really nice shape and wondered if anyone could tell whether this is vintage or replicated since it is so nice. Everything is clean including the draw ropes and there are graphics on both sides. If authentic, any idea on aging? Saw some soaps on ebay, similar graphics, but not sack form. Anyway, noticed the auto wheel on the graphics and wondered even if this is replicated, if indeed powdered soap would have been delivered to gas stations within a sack such as this way back when? Thanks for any info.

Kevin

Appears to be a steel gear , rather than Auto wheel . Also looks like a Blacksmith , rather tan auto mechanic.
No idea if it's original , but nice display piece.

thought it appeared to be a wheel under the gear.

Doing a little research on the 'net...

Peet Bros Soap was founded in 1872...

In 1926 Palmolive and Peet merged to form the Palmolive-Peet Company...

In 1928 Colgate merged with Palmolive-Peet and the Company changed their name to Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company...

In 1953, the Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company name was simplified to Colgate-Palmolive....

Since the canvas bag reads: "Colgate-Palmolive-Peet Company"... I would surmise it is from the time period of 1928-1953, if "real"?.....

No matter what, I like the looks of it!....

Thanks for the help guys. Yea, i like it too! Good garbage find real or not! Course the wife would not let me take the sheets out without urging me to put gloves on and open it outside our home! Lol

Kevin, thanks for posting the photo of your "Peet's sack"...

I checked on Ebay and found an "unused bar of Peet's Mechanic's Soap and the original box...

And for $10, how could I pass it up? ... LOL
