did they ever make a real one that looked like this
Posted By: THE AMERICAN GARAGE Re: shell sign - Fri Apr 30 2010 12:47 AM
NOPE NEVER. IT'S BASICALLY SOME GRAPHIC ARTISTS CREATIVE MADE UP ADVERTISEMENT MADE BY ANDE ROONEY SINCE THE 1980'S. ORIG RETAILED FOR ABOUT $22.95 20 YEARS AGO. THEY WERE MADE IN MANY BRANDS OF GASOLINE
FOR DECORATIVE PURPOSES.

IF THEY DID MAKE SOMETHING LIKE THIS IT WOULD BE CALLED A REPRODUCTION. SINCE IT WAS NEVER MADE BEFORE 70 YEARS AGO FROM THE LOOKS OF THE PLANE, WE CALL IT A "FANTASY" PIECE BECAUSE IT WAS MADE UP FROM SCRATCH.

IS THIS SIGN ABOUT 12 X 18"?

I have those real porcelain wings and I need that sign if anyone has one. The holes are on the sides toward the bottom on each side so that the wings bolt on. I have included a picture of the wings and the incorrect sign that I am using now. The correct one is sharktooth and flat.
Thanks

You can buy that sign online, for $18.00, but you will have to do the creative chipping yourself... LOL

bear in mind that the font is called "Arial Black" and was popularized in 1993 - there is little to no chance that that modern font was used back in the day...
