I think you are wrong in calling this sign junk. Listing location is not a sure fire way to determine if the item is real.

Yep, looks good to me , as does the other Firestone that they have. Why are you saying it is junk?

You got to be kidding me... Why would any body buy a sign from Buenos Aires Argentina ?

Nothing but trash.

Nothing to do with location....this sign is not real!!!!!!!

Pretty much any sign that comes from Argentina, you are just asking for trouble .

So funny how bad information is passed on to others. Would it be fair to advise others to stay away from items coming from New York because I read about about some shady transactions by people who live there? The answer is no, this is not how it is done.

Back to the sign in question. The Firestone sign in question is real. The lettering is not the typical computer fonts we see in fakes. The color is dead on. The rack marks are correct to the early porcelain sign maker's process, not like the fake rack marks seen in todays repops. Firestone has had a major marketing program in South America since the 1930's. This sign and many other commonly found Firestone signs are not uncommon finds in South America and other location outside of the US. It is very hard to tell, but it is very possible this sign was made in the US and exported to South America has part of Firestone's early marketing program.

I have this same sign in my collection and other than the fact that mine has a little more wear, they are the same. Now for the bad news> My sign came from a dealer in New York at the Pier Show. Did I get taken? If the answer is yes, we need to watch all signs coming from New York..... Just joking, I have little worry about my Firestone sign being fake.

Bad information....

What is the size of your sign? Cant seem to find in any marketing books or any signs even close to this.....nor can i find any documentation of international marketing in argentina...i know they did some marketing in europe but that was not till the 40's. Yes there is a version made like this. 72" by 12" and they made and 8 ft version.

Find some more proof .....

Personally I would not buy anything out of Argentina!! There are thousands of repop signs coming from there & other places that are unmarked. Nothing is stopping them because there are no regulations overseas to make them stop. Most of there signs that look close to the originals through pictures but once the are in hand the differences can be pointed out. jm2c smile

Read some more books if you want, but you have branded every person in Argentina as being a crook. I personally would say New York has Argentina out numbered, but I still find people in New York that I trust, like, and do business with.

I hope other people can see the point I am making.

That sign is a fake.

Fonts are funky and not asymmetric or proportioned in size in relation to the other letters. Why would the sign be made 46 3/4"x7 3/4"? Tin signs lose height and width to the embossing and edges being folded over, but the steel blank starts out as whole numbers.

Unusual size to be cut, makes no sense. How many 48" signs do you have that are only 8" wide. Why is the white border so narrow. Not an attractive looking sign due to the lack of width? Any company paying for marketing and advertising would have considered the dimensions and overall visual appearance with a bit more scrutiny.

Consider the source...Argentina, seller with private feedback. The sign is a fake.
