...I wrote to tell this guy (in so many words) that his can was fake...this is his reply:

Hello, Thank you for the information. I was contacted by a member of the Gulfoil Historical Society today. This member told me that the graphics were correct for the can. That it was a one year item, but the paper label was incorrect. If it is a reproduction, it is a very old reproduction. This is not a label someone printed out on thier computer! The paper label was professionally made. It was made through some sort of screen printing process. This reminds me of a porcelain sign in that the colors were layered on the label. The bottom layer is the 'white' background, the next layer is the orange, followed by the blue and finished with the black. You can see, especially in the blue area, very minute cracks in the color. The label defitinely was not printed with ink! When these were found at the estate sale they had a very heavy layer of dirt and grime, which my friend cleaned off before sending the cans with me. I would say these have been with the estate from the mid 60s, or longer, but that is just my opinion!

...this is not an old can, folks...it might be an old can under the label, but it's not an old Gulf can...if anyone can shed some light on its origin, I'm sure it would be helpful...

I agree Mark. Sellers other cans were covered in another thread.
