What was the hole on the lower door of a G&B 176 for? Mine is missing the door and I was wondering how you tell if it originally came with the door with a hole or without. Thank you

The "hole" was to access the pipe fittings that connected the pump to the underground storage tank. You are missing the cover plate. You can purchase repro cover plate, but they don't fit well out of the box. You can get a decent fit with a little work.

If your pump handle extends between the two concentric bands, you will need a access cover without the hole. I am not aware that any of the 3 T-176 models had an access panel with hole for pump handle below the concentric bands.

The originals had a removable cover over the hole.

The access panel above is the same as found on the T-177. I find it interesting that the small oval panel that covers the pump handle hole has no locking tab and there is no corresponding locking tab on the large cover. I think most pumps had locking tabs on both covers so the pump could be locked up after the handle was removed. Correct me if I am wrong on that.
