Is there a tell tale way to know a fake from an original?
Does this look real?

Yes Steve it looks good. Originals say made in usa around the collar. All the reproductions that I have seen are dated around the collar. Ted

Made in USA is not a hard and fast rule with the Shell globes. I have a NOS globe that was found in a gas station attic well over 40 years ago. No made in USA on the collar and I've seen others that were well naturally aged with lots of sunlight/UV deteriorated fired on red lettering. Those did not have made in USA on them either.

Thanks for the info guys.
I asked him if it is dated, and the guy tells me that the collar is embossed with what he says is either 1934, 1954 or 1994. Says it's not clear.
So fair to assume it's a 1994 repop. I'm going to pass.
Thanks again!!

The "Made in USA" is true to an extent confirming it's authenticity. But some real ones aren't marked at all. I've personally never seen a real one that has any from of date on it. I Hope that this helps. The repop's are not the proper weight, texture and quality of 20's- 30's milkglass.
