India = FAKE ... Argentina = FAKE ... Pawn Shop inventory from the 1970s = FAKE. Research, Research, only weapon we all have. And this site is a wealth of info.

Sad to see so many people get duped into purchases of repop junk doctored to look old, but I don't understand why you conclude that "no high end stuff will ever make it there". If buyers will pay primo for repo junk won't they pay even better for quality?

A lot of people / collectors don't even check e bay anymore = the serious money will change hands privately . I use to scan it everyday , back in late 90's - early 2000s there was almost always something cool coming on . That's all changed .

I agree with you somewhat Dave,,, the real serious stuff ( five figures or more) has always changed hands privately... and that's where some of us are in the last 10 plus years. But in 80-90's before we all had great stuff, there was good stuff on Ebay and there still is good stuff on Ebay just not for the really seasoned collector like yourself and many others.. There has always been repro signs on Ebay like the small 12" signs and that has always been acceptable, until now 20-30 years later newer guys have gotten into the hobby and are trying to pass them off as originals and to them, signs 30 years old are " old originals".. It's also all about the money the great stuff has been bringing in auctions,, some items reaching $100K or more,, the more it goes on the worse it's going to be for everyone. I think it's a generation gap now that makes us older collectors disgruntled in the direction the new guys are taking this hobby. It's NOW all about the money... don't you think ?

Wes,
What would a Near-Mint of this sign bring these days?
Any recent closed auction result?
Thanks,
Hen
P.S. Killer art work!

Never made one like the one above but is similar to another fantasy sign made in the early 2000's and those were all marked. Any original Prairie City (Cities) sign in reasonable condition is worth big bucks and many collectors looking for them, all the ones I have seen were painted tin. Joe
