I recently purchased a 1925 vintage Ottawa visible pump as pictured on the upper left of page 239 of the bible. There are two covers in the base that are missing. Does anyone know if these are cast iron or if they are sheet metal? Are these items for sale? Or, is there one that could be loaned for copy. I have a foundry that will do small runs of cast iron parts. I see on the front of the pump right above the removable cover, there is a obvious place where an oval ID tag was fixed. Does anyone have these for sale? Any help is appreciated!

I was not able to get pics taken of the ottawa yet - but it does need the top door - the top door on the one I know of was home made.
I am very sure the lower door is original - but I will post the pics and let the pros look at them.

At one point I think Vics had some of these made but that may have only been in a small batch. I remember getting some from vic a few years ago...

The bottom door is created from the section of pipe that was cut out to make the access hole. A piece of flat stock was then attached to the cutout piece creating a frame all the way around the edge. This gave the door a lip that allowed to neatly fit back into the hole without falling in. [This message has been edited by Tim Rohr (edited 03-27-2008).]

Same as this one below! But the top door is way different and made kinda the same way as the lower door - I am sure by a farmer. Travis E. Towle Topeka, Kansas 785-357-1004 [This message has been edited by travis_towle (edited 03-27-2008).]

The one I found has flat steel that is held in with two tension clips on each side. Maybe Tim or Seth will know more about this and if it is original.

Are there any curved porclin pump plates that will fit in the large removable panel? It is a bit narrow.

Is there anyone that has a lower cover for sale? Or does anyone have one to loan? If there is another part you need, I'll get it cast for you for free, for the loan of the cover.

I won't forget about you Travis! We will be going forward with this project. We still need a sample of the lower panel for reproduction. If anyone out there needs a casting for an Ottawa, this is the time to speek up.

I am going to bring this back up to the top since it has been 2 years - "lost in the past".
I still need 2 lower base cast iron panels and 1 top cast iron door for my pump.
I HAVE AN EXACT TRACEING PATTERN for the original conduit and I can make that for people to trade out for help in getting a reproduction of the cast iron parts I need made – if you have the parts we might be able to get Ron Scobie to make a few for us?
