Picked up these cans from a gentleman who's father owned a Mobil station during the 50's& 60's in northern Calif. His father used to paint his tanker trucks himself with this red paint. The can is still full and appears to be fresh. I never knew Socony made paint and I'm sure it is full of lead and not up to todays standards. Has any one seen this paint before?

The paint cans are out there. I see the quarts more than the gallons.

Like Tom said, the paint cans of the design you found do come up for sale with some frequency. I mentioned when I did the Mobil COTM thread that on one of my paint cans it said they were manufacturers of paint since 1872. I'm not sure when Mobil stopped marketing it, but I would guess the early 60's. This house paint can is dated 3/60 and is seen less frequently than the SOCONY cans with the larger Pegasus on them. And since I was taking a pic, here is an older dry cleaner can if Tom hadn't seen one of this style before. The 50's can comes up for sale every so often, but this 40's one is a bit more scarce.
