I recently added this Bowser to my collection,the price (I thought) was too good to let go!My questions are,how do I determine the year it was made(by the serial #?)where can I find a lock mechanism for it(it's gone)except for the outside "face". And the doors are cracked,but no missing pieces,if I decide to restore it where can I find these?Thanks for any help!

btw this has a tag stating the station that it was removed from,kinda cool,you don't always know the history of a piece!

I believe your pump is a Bowser 245, and I believe it is a oil pump, not a gas pump. The green paint on the inside of the pump indicates oil, the outside appears to have been painted red over the green. The 241 was a matching pump for gasoline.

it is cast in "cut 241" I never knew paint color meant something,good to know...they pumped oil through a hose?Please straighten me out,as I would like to know all about this "oil pump"

also believe it has 4l 460 on the top brass tag,please help me figure this out!I thought I had a gas pump.......

I know this will take for ever,but I'm going to post again!Here is a shot of the tag with red paint showing UNDER the green paint(if this makes any difference)

Jack--Don't you think it was an all red pump that someone painted the inside and top green? If you study the paint a little, you can see red in all areas, and the green appears to be the top color?

Be tough to find an original lock though? Maybe someone on the forum has used a replacement in the past?

My mistake, it is a Bowser Model 241 gas pump. The overhead discharge should have told me that.

Red was the original color.

I just picked up a 241 from a local farm where it has been for the last 70 years! I was very lucky in that they took care of it, and the pump is complete with both doors good, and the lock and key in place!

From all the ads and original factory literature I have on this pump, they must have sold a ton of them. It is probably the most found pump from that era.

Jack, I thought I got a good deal,I hope...paid $450,(hope that's aloud)I'm happy with it,that's all that matters...I really like the tag that came with it that had the name of the station it came from.I like items with a story.

If I'm not mistaken, the "oil" being referred to here if fuel oil.
